Puttenham Solar

A large-scale hillside solar installation designed to power a substantial private residence and swimming pool with clean, renewable energy. Engineered without the use of concrete, this innovative system demonstrates how challenging terrain can be transformed into a high-performance, discreet energy solution.

PROJECT OVERVIEW:

LOCATION: Puttenham, Guildford, United Kingdom

VALUE: X

SCOPE: Ground-Mounted Solar PV Installation (Screw Pile Foundations) + Inverter System

This ambitious project was delivered on a steep south-facing embankment, perfectly positioned for maximum solar gain while remaining completely out of sight from the main house. The goal was clear: generate enough renewable energy to support both a large countryside home and its swimming pool, significantly reducing grid reliance and long-term energy costs.

One of the biggest challenges was installing the system on a slope using screw pile foundations. Due to planning constraints, concrete foundations were not permitted, requiring the entire structure to be secured using heavy-duty ground screws. Even the specialist supplier delivering the screws commented that they had never encountered an installation quite like it. Precision alignment and structural calculations were critical to ensure stability, longevity, and optimal panel orientation.

The south-facing gradient provided ideal solar exposure, allowing us to maximise system performance throughout the year. High-efficiency PV panels were mounted onto a custom-engineered racking system, supported by robust inverter technology to ensure consistent output and intelligent energy management.

The result is a powerful yet discreet solar solution, blending seamlessly into the landscape while delivering substantial renewable generation for a high-demand household.
