What Do You Need to Know Before Installing Tesla Powerwall 3?

A Complete Guide and Installation Insights from Pro-Teck Smart Solutions

The Tesla Powerwall 3 offers a future-ready solution that helps you reduce your energy bills, minimise grid reliance, and power your home more efficiently.

At Pro-Teck Smart Solutions, we’re proud to specialise not only in Tesla-certified installations, but also in Loxone smart home systems—making the Powerwall 3 a perfect match for homeowners who want full energy automation and control.

What is the Tesla Powerwall 3?

Tesla Powerwall 3 is home energy storage system, available in the UK since 2024. Designed to store energy from your solar panels or from the grid. It automatically powers your home when energy demand is high or during a power outage.

What makes it stand out from other batteries? Powerwall 3 delivers a powerful 13.5 kWh of usable energy storage and up to 11.04 kW of continuous output. That means it can comfortably run most homes, even during a grid failure. It also features an integrated solar inverter—so you can connect your solar panels directly to it with fewer parts, more efficiency, and simpler installation.

Unlike many alternatives, the Powerwall 3 is built with scalability, smart controls, and grid independence in mind. It reduces your carbon footprint, protects you during outages, and helps you get the most from your solar system, its an all in one smart solution.

Pre-Installation – What to Consider?

Before installing a Tesla Powerwall 3, there are a few key things to consider to ensure you get the best setup for your home:

1. Assess Your Energy Needs

Start by understanding how much energy your household uses. Consider your usage now and in the future. If you plan to add EV chargers or heat pumps, let your installer know. We’ll also evaluate your solar panel production (if you have one), and help you choose the right number of Powerwall units or expansion packs.

2. Check Your Electrical Setup

We’ll inspect your home’s electrical system to make sure it’s ready for installation. If you’re on a variable tariff, we might recommend storing cheaper off-peak electricity overnight to use during the day.

3. Choose the Right Location

Powerwall 3 can go indoors or outdoors, but clearance and ventilation are important. Rooms should be at least 1.6 x 1.6 x 2.4 m with no obstructions above the unit. It can’t be mounted horizontally or upside down.

4. Decide on Backup Needs

Do you want backup for your whole home, or just the essentials? Powerwall 3 works with Tesla’s Backup Gateway to detect outages and automatically switch to battery power. For setups over 3.68 kW, a DNO (G99) application will also be required before installation.

Installation Process

When it’s time to install your Powerwall 3, here’s what you can expect from the Pro-Teck team:

1. Delivery & Inspection

We begin by checking the unit and its components for damage and verifying everything matches the Tesla install guidelines.

2. Mounting the Unit

Next, we secure the mounting bracket to your chosen surface—wall or ground—and safely lock the Powerwall 3 in place.

3. Electrical Connections

We wire the battery to your electrical system, ensuring everything is fully compliant. If you have solar, we’ll connect it directly to the Powerwall using its integrated inverter.

4. Configuration & Testing

We’ll then set up your Tesla app, connect your Powerwall to Wi-Fi, and customise the settings based on your energy goals. Before leaving, we simulate a power cut and test every function to make sure your system is fully operational.

Post-Installation Support

1. Monitoring

Your Tesla app gives you real-time insight into how much energy you’re generating, using, and storing.

2. Warranty & Support

Powerwall 3 comes with Tesla’s 10-year warranty. Should anything come up, you’ll have access to both Tesla support and our local Pro-Teck team to keep everything running smoothly.
